While happily having lunch with your family with a freshly baked red snapper fish right from the ocean sea on a boat in the middle of The South China Sea, had you ever thought that the fish is not salty despite being in the salted water 247 all the time?
As an observer, I had the thought i.e the question many years ago and I had tried to find the reasons behind it.
And, I had found it.

1.0 Overview
Picture yourself enjoying a delightful lunch with family, savoring freshly baked red snapper caught from the South China Sea. Have you ever wondered why these fish, despite living in salty water their entire lives, aren't salty when we eat them? This question sparked my curiosity years ago and led me to explore the fascinating reasons behind it.
Arel Moodie, a motivational speaker and author, introduces the concept of "the average of five," which suggests that we become the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Just as sea fish thrive in saltwater without absorbing that saltiness, we too can navigate our environments without being defined by them. Our surroundings profoundly influence us, and it's essential to remain aware of this impact.
2.0 My Story
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to cultivate friendships that have shaped who I am today. My critical thinking and observant nature have guided me in choosing friends wisely since my school days. I’ve witnessed peers become reflections of their social circles, emphasizing the importance of surrounding ourselves with individuals who uplift and inspire us.
Understanding the metaphor of "The Sea Fish in the Water" serves as a reminder that we are easily influenced by our surroundings. It is crucial for the younger generation to be discerning in their choices of friends, as these relationships will significantly impact their development.
3.0 My Analysis
So, why aren't saltwater fish salty when consumed? According to Dr. Daniel Pauly, a leading marine biologist at the University of British Columbia, marine fish maintain a delicate balance of electrolytes lower than their environment's salinity. They actively expel excess salt through their kidneys and gills to survive. This biological process underscores an essential lesson: just as fish adapt to their environment while maintaining their identity, we too must be aware of our ecosystems and how they shape our mindsets.
The Ecosystem of Mindset comprises attributes, experiences, and lifestyles that influence our thinking patterns. Being conscious of this ecosystem allows us to remain prudent in our choices and actions—especially when it comes to raising children who are impressionable and susceptible to external influences.
Business leaders must cultivate an awareness of various stakeholder perspectives—management, employees, clients, and communities—to enrich their decision-making processes. By embracing diverse viewpoints, organizations can enhance their resilience and adaptability in a competitive landscape.
4.0 Iconic References
The iconic reference here is you—the reader. Reflect on your role within your ecosystem. Just as sea fish navigate their salty environment without becoming salty themselves, you have the power to choose how external influences shape your mindset.
5.0 Summary
Mindset is paramount; it is the king of everything we do. The metaphor of The Sea Fish in the Water serves as a powerful reminder that our ecosystems profoundly influence us. By acknowledging this reality, we can approach our surroundings with caution and intentionality.
